Microsilica
Microsilica, a by-product of the production of silicon or ferrosilicon alloys, consists of ultra-fine (sub-micron), amorphous, non-porous, perfectly spherical particles of silicon dioxide (SiO2) with its purity of 85-99%. The primary function of these ultrafine particles is to greatly improve particle filling and produce higher volcanic ash reactions, silica-calcium hydroxide reactions in concrete and other cementitious bonding systems, thereby improving the properties as well as the strength and durability of these materials.
In addition, due to the amorphous (non-crystalline) structure and large specific surface area of silica fume, it provides other useful properties for a variety of applications, including improved sintering properties and elevated high temperature performance of refractory castables, which allows the microsilica to react with other components of the refractory material.
Microsilica is carefully and precisely processed to ensure key quality parameters. Raw materials (low alkali, low volatiles) are carefully selected for continuous quality control using a rigorous Statistical Process Control (SPC) system.
This ongoing quality assurance program includes continuous production process monitoring and analysis, stabilization of incoming raw materials and furnace operation adjustments, and post-production control of the finished product. Consistent quality and good workability, fluidity, solidification and hardening properties are achieved through consistency of chemical composition.
In construction field, ACC microsilica can enhance the performance of various building materials in a variety of applications:
- To reduce construction time and to provide structural advantages and durability for buildings, bridges, tunnels and highways when used in High-performance concrete.
- To replace asbestos used in fiber cements as roofing materials such as flat and corrugated sheeting, shingles, pipes and moldings for new structures.
- To improve fire resistance and material strength when used in Gypsum boards production.
In the field of refractory materials, ACC microsilica can exploit advantages according to different refractory products:
- The fine particles of ACC microsilica can be filled into the pores of refractory bricks, which makes the structure of refractory bricks denser, thus improving their mobility and compressive strength and reducing cracks.
- ACC microsilicar can have chemical reaction with other components of the castables to generate new compounds, which can enhance the bonding strength and stability.
- ACC microsilica has low coefficient of thermal expansion to reduce the thermal stress generated when changing in temperature during the refractory production process, to improve their thermal shock resistance and ensure stable performance and increasing service life.
- ACC microsilica can also promote the sintering of refractories, improve the high-temperature strength of refractories, prevent the erosion medium (such as slag, molten steel, etc.) from penetrating into the interior of the castables, and improve the erosion resistance of refractories.
In the fertilizer field, ACC microsilica is mainly used in highly chemical fertilizer.
- ACC microsilica with high whiteness can be effectively fused with fertilizers.
- ACC microsilicar make full use of its high adhesion and good moisture absorption, which can be well attached to the surface of fertilizer particles, preventing agglomeration between particles.
- In the process of using, it can also produce potassium silicate by mixing and heating, which can improve the soil and regulate the acidity and alkalinity.
ACC white microsilica, also called zirconia microsilica, as a by-product of zirconia, has the characteristics of both silicon and zirconium.
- High SiO2 content, fine particle size, large specific surface area, good fluidity, whiteness and so on.
- It is widely used in white building, white cement, refractory materials, ceramics and electronic materials to enhance their wear resistance, durability and strength.
